Facts about the President of the Republic of India

Some of the facts about Pranab Mukherjee, the president of India :-

  • DoB :- 11 December 1935
  • Birth Place :- Birbhum district, Bengal
  • He is 13th President of India
  • He began his political career with the Indian National Congress in 1969 under Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
  •  He formed his own political party, the Rashtriya Samajwadi Congress, but later merged it with Congress in 1989.
  • In 1984, Pranab was rated as the best Finance Minister in the World according to a survey of Euromoney magazine.
  • In 2010, he was awarded “Finance Minister of the Year for Asia” by Emerging Markets, the daily newspaper of record for the World Bank and the IMF.
  • Pranab Mukherjee was recognised as the “Finance Minister of the Year by “The Banker” which is monthly international financial affairs publication owned by The Financial Times in 2010.
  • He was awarded Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award of India, in 2008 by The Government of India.
  • Interestingly, His father, Kamada Kinkar Mukherjee, was a member of the Indian National Congress and had spent more than ten years in British jails during the Indian Independence Movement.
  • Pranabda, as he is called,  holds two Master of Arts degrees in History and Political Science and also a degree in law from the University of Calcutta.
  • He is inspired by Deng Xiaoping(a Chinese politician, statesman, and diplomat), and has quoted him quite frequently.
  • In his free time, he sticks to his hobbies which are reading, gardening and music.
  • Mukherjee celebrates thevery famous Durga Pooja at his ancestral home in Mirati village in West Bengal’s Birbhum district.
  • Mukherjee began his career as an upper-division clerk in the office of the Deputy Accountant-General (Post and Telegraph) in Kolkata (then Calcutta). He than shifted to become a college-teacher and later a journalist.
  • Pranab was described as “man for all seasons” for Late PM Indira Gandhi.
  • Anti Corruption crusader Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal have claimed to have proof of his corruption which is expected to release shortly.
